North Coast Community College offers a Certificate III in Hospitality which is catered to meet the demands of the local Northern Rivers employment opportunities within areas such as Alstonville, Ballina, Byron Bay, Lismore and Yamba.

This hands-on practical training reflects the role of a developed hospitality worker who has a range of:

  • Well developed hospitality services
  • Sales and operational skills
  • Sound knowledge of industry operations and much more

You will also learn a vast amount of knowledge from an experienced trainer who will aim to give you more confidence when working with organisational:

  • Plans
  • Policies
  • Procedures
  • And to work with some independence and to trust your own judgement

Duration: 21 weeks

Location: Alstonville Campus and partner businesses within the Northern Rivers

Units: 15 units (7 core units + 8 elective units)

Training mode: Face-to-face & online components

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under the Smart and Skilled program.

To be eligible for subsidised training you must be:

  • no longer at school
  • 15 years old or over
  • living or working in NSW
  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen

Course fees

The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place.

Subsidised Fees:

First Qualification: $1,450

Second Qualification: $1,750

Concession: $240

 

If you’re not eligible to have your training subsidised:

Full Fee: $3,800

Course requirements

There are no precourse or study requirements. However, during the enrolment process students will have to supply evidence of :

  • NSW Police Check
  • Working with children check
  • Current flu injection record
  • Current vaccination record

 

Where can I work?

By obtaining this hospitality qualification, it can provide you with a pathway to work in organiations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and much more.

It also allows you to expand your role within an organisation through being qualified to multitask within different areas of business and through specialisation within accomodation services, food and beverage and gaming.

Statement of attainment, core units and elective units

Students must complete 15 units which includes up to 120 hours of work experience to obtain their Certificate III in Hospitality. This is made up of 7 core units and 8 elective units which is catered towards a variety of skills required for in-demand jobs within the Northern Rivers.

Upon successful completion, students will receive their statement of attainment in SIT30616 – Certificate III in Hospitality and become competent within the units below.

During this course you will be tasked to complete these 7 core units below.

  • BSBWOR203 Work effectively with others
  • SITHIND002 Source and use information on the hospitality industry
  • SITHIND004 Work effectively in hospitality service
  • SITXCCS006 Provide service to customers
  • SITXCOM002 Show social and cultural sensitivity
  • SITXHRM001 Coach others in job skills
  • SITXWHS001 Participate in safe work practices

 

Elective units

During this course you will be tasked to complete these 8 elective units below.

  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety (online)
  • SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol
  • SITHFAB004 Prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages
  • SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
  • SITHFAB010 Prepare and serve cocktails
  • SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices
  • SITHGAM001 Provide responsible gambling services
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

 

Have you already completed Hospitality training?

If you have completed a number of Hospitality courses such as your RSA, RCG, Barista, Food Safety Supervisor, First Aid, you may be eligible for credit transfer towards your full qualification.

This means, you may have already completed half or part of the qualification already!
