This workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn about orchard design and planting on an established Certified Organic Lemon Myrtle Farm.
If you are new to farming, would like to gain skills in agriculture, or learn about Lemon Myrtle production, this workshop is for you!
Through a collaboration with The Myrtle Trading Co, North Coast Community College is running 1-day workshop.
Workshop activities incorporate orchard planning and planting as part of a Lemon Myrtle orchard expansion project.
Participants will learn about bush foods and their uses, organic farming, regenerative agriculture, soil amelioration, cover cropping, weed suppression, wind breaks and contour bank design. Hands on experience is gained in the use of farm equipment and the care and planting of seedlings, as an extension to the farm orchard.
This non accredited workshop is a great introduction to our AHC330616 – Certificate III in Production Horticulture.
Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) is an Australian native and trees remain productive for over 30 years. Under organic protocol orchards provide a sustainable crop with low environmental impact, providing clean air and sequestering carbon throughout their lifecycle. Lemon Myrtle products provide a healthy, sustainable alternative to heavily processed food flavours and they taste great!
